I'm soooo with you on the classics, to the extent that when my daughter (now 27) announced that she was making the stuffing, I asked suspiciously, "So, did you talk with Grandma?" She assured me she did. How can it be classic if my Mom isn't making the stuffing?
But I must admit I too am treading into unknown territory. I'm switching to key lime pie this year from my pumpkin-and-mince-pie-only past. I just couldn't imagine a highly potent carb meal without something light and fruity at the end. I must be evolving.
And now that I am vegetarian I have to consider something to replace the turkey. OMG, maybe it's all about morphing to the next big thing while keeping the spirit and memories from the past.
Good thing my significant other insists on keeping some traditions. His contribution is a green bean casserole, like it or not that the soup it contains 20% salt!
Thank God some things never change.
